The Governor's Room This room, generally referred to as the “Green” room for its wall color, is named for James Grant, the first governor of British East Florida. While doing research at his ancestral home in Scotland, we stayed in our first B&B’s, were enchanted, and began making plans to open our own. A mahogany 4-poster bed centers the room; a wing chair provides a comfortable reading spot. The TV and DVD player are tucked into an antique armoire. The painting above the armoire is reminiscent of the Urquhart castle ruins at Lock Ness in Scotland; quilts at the windows are a patchwork of tartan plaids. Sweetgrass baskets, though new, are like those that would have been used in 18th century Florida, when it was British; the fishing baskets are English. The bath has a standard step-in shower. Price begins at $115 / night. |

The Barnett Room The Barnett family owned the house from the mid-1940's until we purchased it in 1989. This room, known as the “Blue” room, was Mr. Barnett’s private study and is the largest of the guest rooms, with views of the St. Johns River. A library table and reading chair accommodate business or personal writing and study needs. A large English gentleman’s wardrobe hides a cable TV with DVD player as well as coffee and tea supplies. Persian rugs and an unusual cheval mirror round out the furnishings. The bath features the original pedestal soaking tub, with a shower added for convenience. Price begins at $125 /night. |

| The Cohen Room Named after the original occupants of the house, this room is situated in the Carriage House, just adjacent to the main house, and offers an especially quiet and private setting. Narrow stairs lead to the private retreat, and wisteria vines wrap around its facade. Inside, botanical prints adorn the walls. French doors open to the bath, which retains its original claw-foot tub. A shower has been added for convenience. A small frig is stocked with sodas. The Gov. Winthrop desk is from the Brazil estate, one of the few remaining “row” houses on Riverside Avenue, and now the Riverdale Inn. Price begins at $99 / night. |
