About St. Johns House

St. Johns House is a private residence offering overnight lodging and a hearty breakfast to travelers.  In the heart of the distinctive Riverside/Avondale Historic District, St. Johns House is located one block from the St. Johns River in a delightful small neighborhood.  The prairie-school house was built in 1914 for the Edward E. Cohen family.  It opened as a Bed and Breakfast in 1992.

Visitors to St. Johns House can trade the fast pace of city life for a quiet retreat, yet keep in touch with WIFI available throughout the house and garden.  Guests enjoy spacious rooms with high ceilings, large windows, hardwood floors, and informal elegance.  Inviting porches and a quiet and shady back patio add to the peaceful atmosphere.  Extensively restored in recent years, the house blends modern convenience with historic design.

Guests can also join in the myriad activities of a great neighborhood.  In 2010, the historic district was named one of Ten Great American Neighborhoods by the American Planning Association, and one of the best neighborhoods in America by Forbes Magazine.  From St. Johns House, guests can walk to Memorial and Riverside Parks, art and antique galleries, the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, St. Vincents Medical Center, beautiful churches of various denominations, and neighborhood shops and restaurants.  A riverwalk leads pedestrians to downtown Jacksonville along the St. Johns, one of America’s heritage rivers.  Downtown is home to the Convention Center, Times Union Center for the Performing Arts, Florida Theater, Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Sports and Entertainment Complex.  Located across the river on the south bank (river taxis are available) are Baptist Medical Center, the Museum of Science and History and the Maritime Museum, and Treaty Oak Park.  Jacksonville’s beaches and golf courses are within a twenty mile radius.

Wake up to the glory of a St. Johns River sunrise and enjoy the freshly prepared breakfast included in our rates.  Relax on the porch or enjoy a walk along the river, only a block away.  Come and go as you please.  let St. Johns House by your home away from home while in Jacksonville.

St. Johns House B&B is open November through May.  We are closed throughout March.
